Victoria Chemist, 80-82 High Street, Banstead, Surrey, 2001 • Quite a fancy 1980s-style frontage for a chemist (and named after me, always a good thing). It’s still there, double the size and now called Victoria Chemists (plural).

You know you’re in the Home Counties when typical independent chemists, like this one, boast substantial displays selling the same expensive cosmetics as city centre or out of town department stores… often a counter down one side as large as the medicines display.
In my less affluent northern milieu you might find a few bottles of perfume on the top counter- especially near Christmas, or one rack under the sign of a mid-priced brand (e.g. Vichy/ RoC) offering that skincare range. If you’re lucky… more frequently old school pharmacies advertise their better prices on kitchen towel than the supermarket or stands full of deodorant and shower gel at 99p.
Great point! I always took that for granted, eg in Surrey towns like Reigate. Sounds like the old school northern pharmacies may make more interesting photos, though…
