Riddicks (and Racks), 22 Fowler Street, South Shields, South Tyneside NE33, 2013 • Grand local shoe shop founded in 1893, closed in 2014 – just one of several imposing premises in the area now somewhat oversized for their occupants. At the time there was a plan to retain the building while the surroundings were demolished for a new town centre plan, though the empty shop was still there in 2017. Racks, the matching snooker club upstairs, has also departed for good.
