W.J. Armstrong Ltd

W.J. Armstrong Ltd, 12 London Road, East Grinstead, West Sussex, 2004 • Classic Sandeman sign – port one side, sherry the other – featuring its famous fedora and cloak-clad ‘Don’ silhouette. It’s a figure somewhat conflated with Orson Welles, though he never played the part; there’s a 1965 TV ad featuring the character here. In 2016 the shop was still there completely unchanged, and still with the sign.
