W. Martyn, 135 Muswell Hill Broadway, Muswell Hill, Borough of Haringey, London N10, 2016 • Established in 1897 and still in the Martyn family, this is known as the Fortnum & Mason of Muswell Hill.It still offers fine foods & freshly roast coffee – hence the roaster in window. In 2009, fearing they wouldn’t be able to update the interior, the owners fought against an English Heritage listing and lost. It has in fact undergone various changes, for instance the shop’s photo page shows a very different Edwardian frontage – whereas this looks 1930s. There’s a full shop history here
