Broadway Hair Stylist, 344 Muswell Hill Broadway, Muswell Hill, Borough of Haringey, London N10, 2016 • A proper early 1960s hair stylist’s fascia, complete with modernist mosaic – very rare these days. Someone else was photographing it while I was, though there are surprisingly few images on Flickr. My Muswell says it’s run by Michael Costa, who’s been there for 53 years (and that was written at least 4 years ago). Ian Nairn wrote about Muswell Hill Broadway: “Very much of a place, though it may take some getting used to. At first it may like any other late-Victorian of North London. Then the naive charm of the shopping arcades seeps through, each announcing itself to the roundabout with a pompous little flourish” (Nairn’s London, 1966)

I love the photos of the models in the window. Typical of a sixties or seventies barber. I bet they sell Bryllcream. Great mosaics.
