Nameless chinoiserie shop, 29 Guildhall Street, Folkestone, Kent, 2008 • This has a look of Edwardian chinoiserie about it, so I prefer to think it’s an ex-gown shop rather than a derelict Chinese restaurant. It’s in an area that was once upmarket and full of entertainment venues (see the good local history page here), but I can’t find any info about the shop. The most recent Google Street View shows it in 2009, when it was still the same. See below for an interesting comment on the shop’s history; it seems that for many decades it was a toyshop called Steddys (from before the 1950s, up until around the 1980s). And the facade is now gone and modernised.
