Eva Petulengro

Eva Petulengro, Palace Pier, Brighton, East Sussex, 1983 • A slow day for clairvoyancy at Brighton’s then-decaying Palace Pier, which is nowadays called Brighton Pier and much smarter. I hope that is Eva herself emerging, with possibly her son in attendance – born in 1939 she would have been in her early 40s so looks the right age. She was a famous Romany clairvoyant who had many celebrity clients in the 1960s, and wrote newspaper horoscope columns and an autobiography called The Girl in the Painted Caravan. Her daughter Claire Petulengro carries on the clairvoyancy trade in Brighton to this day, and Eva was still around up till at least 2014. There’s a 2011 interview with her here, and some tales of people who had Petulengro readings here.
