Valentine

Valentine, 171 Long Lane, Borough of Southwark, London SE1, 2011 • Scary pub squat with extreme name / appearance mismatch. It may have originally been called the Valentine & Orson, whatever that means. It’s just been redeveloped as a Sainsbury Local, the 10th in the area. Better than a squat, though.

  1. It was known as The Valentine & Orson until at least the 60’s. Valentine & Orson is an old French Fairytale. Heaven only knows how a pub in Southwark gained the name.

    • Oh thanks! I had never heard the term before, in a London context it makes me think of ‘orse an’ cart. Bizarre name for a horrible Southwark pub, anyway.
