Weisfelds (Goldbergs)

Weisfelds (Goldbergs), Trongate, Glasgow, Scotland, 2008 • A portion of the once-beloved department store Goldbergs, which closed in 1991 and re-opened as cheapo clothes outlet Weisfelds in 1994. The Weisfelds went on to make a fortune with budget fashion chain What Everyone Wants, and later bought into Poundstretcher. Meanwhile Selfridges acquired this site, let it rot, sold it on, and eventually it was demolished. It’s next to the beautiful Samiez Leathers building, which is currently still there. There’s an amazing Flickr photo set of the derelict Goldbergs interior here, evidence of its 1970s pomp still visible in 2006.

  1. Nice link of the interior pics, guessing that the removal of any slightly valuable 90s stuff revealed the long covered 70’s backdrop.
