The Beano Cafe, 6 Caledonian Road, Borough of Islington, London N1, 2002 & 2003 • A tale of Kings Cross: in the course of a year, the Beano edged from decaying seediness (above, 2002) into plastic-signed respectability (below, 2003). By 2009 it had embraced gentrification as The Brill (now defunct), whose Evening Standard opening review gives a flavour of this once-scummy area.
