D. Barnett

D. Barnett, 1 Station Approach, Chipstead Station Parade, Chipstead, Surrey CR5, 2001 The perfect spot for emergency slipper repairs on 28th Dec (probably needed quite often in Surrey). Note ancient phone number – station parades are often the last redoubt of traditional businesses. The owner of this one, David Barnett, retired in 2012 after 53 years as a cobbler – there’s a valedictory article here in which he explains that trainers and plastic shoes crippled his trade. The shop currently survives on Google Street View, with Mr Barnett inside it.
