Maries Cafe, 90 Lower Marsh, Waterloo, Borough of Lambeth, London SE1, 2005 (top), 2011 (middle), 2003 (bottom) • Shrunken-headed Santa greets curious punter at this popular Thai-cum-greasy spoon caff, which still looks much the same today. Note naive plastic sign with flying food – I think the blobby thing in the middle is a burger.

Shopfront Elegy 
i used to go in this cafe when I t was Maries. Was italian run by Marie and her husband and made wonderful food but his catch phrase when you ordered anything at all even a bacon sandwich was “Do yer wanna any spaghetti wi thattt”?. When the Thai ladies took it over we all started eating the noodles for breakfast – again wonderful grub.
