Livebait, 43 The Cut, Waterloo, Borough of Southwark, London SE1, 2006 This was the first Livebait, launched in 1996, which had a fully-tiled interior in classic pie-and-mash parlour style (I’m not clear if any was from the previous shop, but it was a beautiful piece of vernacular decor all the same, and “in keeping” – to quote a bugbear of Owen Hatherley – in the best way). The chain went downhill and in 2012 this branch was taken over by Byron Burger, who ripped out the whole lot in favour of faux-distressed-Williamsburg, the vandals.
